In the exploration process of a given sedimentary basin, it is important to define and recognize the Petroleum System. The main elements of a petroleum system are:
• Generation;
• Migration;
• Retention;
Trap;
Reservoir rocks;
Sealing rocks.
• Timing.
Geological studies and modeling are very important to understanding the elements of a petroleum system. Among the main tools for these studies are the geophysical methods. With the Geophysical Methods, Reflection Seismic is currently the most used one, as it is one of the most accurate and has experienced a fantastic evolution in recent decades. Using this method, Brazil, through Petrobras, has achieved fabulous success in exploration and production in increasingly deeper waters, culminating in the great exploratory success of recent times, in the so-called Brazilian Pre-Salt.
The Seismic Method, used in both onshore and offshore surveys, starts with the acquisition of data, which can basically be described as the emission of an elastic or acoustic wave underground, and the recording of the energy that, after propagating underground, it returns to the surface. This data is processed, using several algorithms, generating a seismic section that provides an image of subsurface geology. Finally, this image is interpreted, where geological models and knowledge are used, as well as external information (wells, analogous models, etc...), providing awareness of the studied area.
ELF Geoconsultoria has wide competence, both in acquisition and processing, but also in geological interpretation, being able to carry out consulting, acting in quality control, training or even managing teams for these stages.
